The Epidemic of Being Homeless

Surrounded by those with no desire to be here,
I'm not sure if I even crave
the knowledge anymore
Sometimes, things are only
horrible because you have to do them
and we make good grades
to get good jobs
and dreamers like us never go far
because the desire to learn
can't put an annual wage of
$70,000
in your pocket
and long after the afternoon rush,
we will be sipping coffee
and discussing literature
as we get hectically jumbled
by a stream of the people who
make good grades
to get good jobs
while the man that lives
in alleyway 4999 by the old
gas station
hands flowers from his shopping car
He doesn't make good money
and he certainly never made good grades
but perfectly content
with Dendelions and Wildflowers
I want to be like him
and with him
the epidemic of prosperity is
one we need not worry about
We've caught something much
more...lethal
just for today, at least
I stayed home from school
I've caught the epidemic of
being homeless
or, happy,
and I guess there are only a
select few places where the
Dreamers and seekers and imagination
can be content
but we lock them away and label
them [INSANE]
or throw them into alleyway
499 next to the old gas station

for the birds to pick apart...
